Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Theta Sigma Omega Chapter extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Tyre Nichols, 29, who was brutally killed after a routine traffic stop by police officers in Memphis, Tennessee. He joins the unfortunate list of Black men and women who have suffered injury or fatality due to police brutality. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Memphis community and those in this nation who are wrestling with the horrific images of Mr. Nichols’ beating at the hands of those who were sworn to protect and serve. As our International President Danette Anthony Reed and South Eastern Regional Director Dr. Tracey Morant Adams, stated in an earlier communications, we must make “appropriate and fair policing a priority.” We support a thorough investigation of this untimely death. We call for peaceful expressions and prayers.
